Cyclonic Storm Murasu Weakens Into Depression, Heavy Rain Alert Across South and Central India

IMD Weather Update: Cyclonic Storm Murasu Weakens Into Depression, Heavy Rain Alert Across South and Central India
Date: November 4, 2026
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an important weather update as the remnants of Severe Cyclonic Storm Murasu continue to influence weather conditions across southern and central India. According to the latest IMD bulletin dated November 4, the system has weakened into a Depression and is currently centred over east Telangana and adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Although the cyclone has weakened, several regions are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the coming days.
Cyclonic Storm Murasu Weakens Into Depression
According to the IMD, the Depression is expected to move nearly northwards and gradually weaken into a Well-Marked Low-Pressure Area within the next six hours.
During the 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM IST on November 4, exceptionally heavy rainfall was recorded in parts of Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. Rainfall reached around 27 cm in locations including Mulakalapalle in Bhadradri Kothagudem district and parts of West Godavari.
Heavy rainfall of approximately 7–11 cm was also reported in parts of Chhattisgarh, Coastal Karnataka, South Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
The weakening of the system does not mean that rainfall activity will immediately stop. Moisture associated with the system may continue to influence weather conditions across several states.
Heavy Rainfall Alert for Southern India
Southern India remains the most affected region due to the system.
Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Telangana: Isolated very heavy rainfall is very likely on November 4. Squally winds reaching 40–50 kmph, with gusts up to 60 kmph, are expected along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast and over parts of East Telangana.
Tamil Nadu and Puducherry: Scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over the coming days. Some locations may experience heavy showers, thunderstorms and lightning.
Kerala and Karnataka: Rainfall activity is likely to continue, with isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity in some areas.
Farmers and residents should remain alert, particularly in low-lying areas that are vulnerable to waterlogging.
Rain Warning for Central and Eastern India
The IMD has also forecast isolated heavy rainfall over south Chhattisgarh and south Odisha on November 4. Thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds may accompany rainfall in these areas.
Meanwhile, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall between November 8 and November 10.
Other active weather systems, including upper-air cyclonic circulations and a Western Disturbance, may also influence weather conditions across different parts of the country.
Delhi and Other Regions: Weather Outlook
Delhi and the National Capital Region are expected to experience mainly clear skies, with shallow fog or mist during morning hours.
The maximum temperature is likely to remain between 27°C and 29°C, while minimum temperatures may range from 15°C to 17°C.
No significant weather warnings or major weather disruptions are expected across most parts of Northwest, West and Northeast India during the week, according to the provided IMD outlook.
IMD Advisory for Farmers and Fishermen
Heavy rainfall can create problems for standing crops, agricultural operations and rural infrastructure. Farmers in affected regions should take the following precautions:
Drain excess rainwater from agricultural fields to prevent waterlogging.
Ensure proper drainage around paddy, cotton and maize crops.
Avoid spraying pesticides and fertilizers during rainfall or strong winds.
Secure agricultural equipment, farm materials and temporary structures.
Monitor local weather forecasts before carrying out field operations.
The IMD has also warned that sea conditions over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal, along and off the Andhra Pradesh coast, will remain rough to very rough. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
Residents should avoid taking shelter under trees during thunderstorms and follow local administration advisories.
Conclusion
Cyclonic Storm Murasu has weakened into a Depression, but its impact on rainfall activity continues across southern and central India. Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh and Odisha should remain alert to changing weather conditions.
Farmers are advised to protect standing crops from excess rainwater and follow district-level weather warnings.
