IMD Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall, Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Forecast Across Southern India Until November 11

Date: November 5, 2026

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a nationwide weather update, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds across several parts of southern and northeastern India between November 5 and 11, 2026. While southern states are likely to experience active rainfall, Maharashtra and most parts of western and central India are expected to remain largely dry during this period.

According to the IMD bulletin, changing atmospheric conditions and multiple weather systems are influencing rainfall activity across different regions of the country. Farmers, fishermen and residents in vulnerable areas have been advised to follow local weather warnings and take necessary precautions.

1. Heavy Rainfall Recorded in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh

Significant rainfall activity was recorded over peninsular India during the 24 hours ending at 8:30 AM IST on November 5.

Aswaraopeta in Telangana's Badradri Kothagudem district recorded an exceptionally high rainfall of 34 cm. Eluru in Coastal Andhra Pradesh received 22 cm of rainfall. Tamil Nadu also experienced heavy showers, with Thudiyalur recording approximately 10 cm.

The depression over east Telangana and adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh has weakened into a low-pressure area and subsequently become less marked. However, its associated cyclonic circulation continues to influence weather conditions over the region.

Other atmospheric systems, including cyclonic circulations over different parts of India and a Western Disturbance affecting the Himalayan region, are also contributing to the changing weather pattern.

2. Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Southern India

Southern India is expected to experience significant rainfall activity over the coming days.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to receive widespread rainfall on November 7 and 8. Scattered rainfall may continue on other days until November 11.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Kerala, Mahe and parts of Karnataka may also experience rainfall during this period.

The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall over Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal through November 11. Kerala and Mahe are likely to receive heavy rainfall between November 5 and 8.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds reaching 30–40 kmph, with gusts up to 50 kmph, are also possible in several southern regions.

3. Weather Forecast for Northeast and Eastern India

Rainfall activity is also expected across parts of eastern and northeastern India.

The Andaman and Nicobar Islands may experience fairly widespread to widespread rainfall between November 8 and 11, with isolated heavy showers towards the end of the period.

Odisha and Jharkhand may receive intermittent rainfall.

In northeastern states, including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, scattered rainfall is likely. Some areas may experience heavy rainfall between November 9 and 11.

4. Rain and Snow Forecast for Northern India

The Western Himalayan region may experience changing weather conditions due to an approaching Western Disturbance.

Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand may receive isolated to scattered rainfall or snowfall, particularly around November 10 and 11.

Residents and travellers in hilly regions should remain alert to possible weather-related disruptions.

5. Maharashtra Weather Update: Mostly Dry Conditions

According to the forecast information provided in the IMD bulletin, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh are likely to experience largely dry weather during the forecast period.

No significant rainfall activity is expected across most parts of Maharashtra between November 5 and 11.

Farmers should continue monitoring district-level forecasts, particularly before planning irrigation, harvesting and other agricultural operations.

6. Delhi-NCR Weather Forecast

Delhi and surrounding areas are expected to experience mainly clear skies over the next few days.

Maximum temperatures are likely to remain between 27°C and 30°C, while minimum temperatures may range from 14°C to 17°C.

Shallow fog or mist may occur at isolated places during morning hours. Afternoon winds are expected to blow mainly from the west or northwest, reaching speeds of up to 18 kmph.

7. IMD Advisory for Farmers and Citizens

Heavy rainfall, lightning and strong winds may affect agricultural activities in southern coastal regions.

Farmers are advised to:

  • Remove excess rainwater from agricultural fields to prevent waterlogging.

  • Provide mechanical support to banana, papaya and other vulnerable crops.

  • Monitor standing rice, sugarcane and maize crops for possible lodging.

  • Avoid unnecessary spraying and fertilizer application during heavy rainfall.

  • Secure harvested produce and agricultural equipment.

  • Follow local agricultural department recommendations.

Residents should avoid standing near trees, electric poles and water bodies during thunderstorms. People in low-lying and hilly areas should remain alert to possible waterlogging and landslides. Fishermen should follow official coastal warnings before venturing into the sea.

The IMD weather bulletin for November 5–11, 2026, indicates active rainfall conditions across southern and northeastern India, with isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected in several states. Meanwhile, Maharashtra and most western and central regions are likely to remain largely dry.

Farmers and citizens should regularly check official IMD forecasts and district-wise alerts to plan their activities and stay prepared for changing weather conditions.
